Rhodes’ International Airport, "Diagoras", closed on Tuesday after last night’s storm created a large pothole on the middle of the runway.

The closure was deemed necessary because the eight-meter-wide pothole is preventing the taxiing of aircraft. Authorities said a crack that existed at the same spot had been fixed, but the torrential rain in the last few hours re-opened it.
A meeting of airport officials is currently underway to decide how to deal with the problem, but the continuous rain prevents the restoration of the airstrip.
